The new project is up country on the Hamakua Coast near the town of Pauillo. The site is on the side of valley that funnels up the ocean winds into the foothills of Mauna Kea. The house will look out, down the valley, to the ocean. It's beautifully quiet cattle country.
The design is based on a Kaloli 2 with an enlarged deck and built on a slab. The house will take advantage of the breezes coming up the valley with energy efficient sliding doors. The doors will also contribute to the daylighting of the house, reducing the need for electrical lighting.
The area had been bulldozed and we were supposed to be putting together the forms for pouring the concrete slab.
We measured using a laser level and found that the surface wasn't even enough yet for a good slab. The bulldozer needed to be called in to go deeper for an even grade.
The project is underway and progressing.
