Sustainable living Hawaii. Intern Opportunity.

Waipi'o Valley

Intern Opportunity:

Sustainable living in Hawaii.
We are a small green architectural design firm based in Hawaiian Paradise Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are looking for talented, creative and reliable interns to work with us in our office and on project locations. This unpaid internship is designed to show students the ins and outs of green design, construction, solar and wind energy designs in a new and growing business. Must have good people and phone skills, positive attitude and a good eye for detail. Organization, focus and self-motivation skills are a must. Duties includes everything from planting to post-production digital photography work, web page manipulation, creative consulting, and basic admin office duties.Getting used to the climate in Hawaii will be a challenge too. Food cost and kitchen duties are shared, we grow a lot of our own vegetables.
We provide free lodging for as many as 4 volunteers at a time. We have a cabin for our interns with high speed internet. Inters staying as our guest must be willing to work for at least 1 month on a full-time basis. Local transportation is provided, we have 4x4 trucks for transportation but interns are responsible for all non-work-related travel expenses (travel to and from Hilo, Hawai`i, and travel on the Big Island and neighboring islands). Structured program combining on-the-job learning and related instruction in which participants receive theoretical and practical training in a highly skilled occupation. It is career training in solar, wind power, organic gardening, green building, design, real estate and much more. In each program, volunteers work and learn under the direction of experienced instructors.
Some volunteer positions require work in the field, sometimes in remote areas. For these positions, volunteers often spend 4-6 days in the field in hot, humid conditions, or sometimes in very cold, and wet weather. We are working on a projects on Kaloli Point on the Big Island right now. Our goal is to achieve LEED standard in our Kaloli 4 design. If you want to learn about Hawaii, solar power, wind energy, organic gardening, green building, tropical fruit orchards, vegetable garden, green houses, animal systems, sign up for our intern positions. Outdoors activities include hiking, diving, sailing, kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding, paragliding and horseback riding.
Green Architectural Design in Hawaii is accepting submissions for interns to join our growing organization. An internship is a great way to get hands-on experience and support our mission to protect and steward our island’s most precious resource – the land.
Work with GAD’s outreach staff to organize volunteer events, build our membership base, connect youth to educational opportunities on our lands, and build relationships with potential partners and volunteers.
