A Sustainable building, or Green building is an outcome of a design which focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use — energy, water, and materials — while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building's lifecycle, through better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal.
Green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:
Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources.

Felicia approaching
Update: We continued building watching the approaching hurricane but then Felicia just fizzled.
Too much deep water around the Big Island and Mauna Kea just smashed the hurricane. Pretty impressive.
It is a Category 4 Hurricane right now but by the time it gets here it will be a tropical storm.
Hopefully. Because we are building a house right now. Stay tuned.

Kaloli III: Sustainable living in Volcano. Eco friendly cabins with solar and air energy.

- 9 acres of tropical rain forest near Volcanoes National Park. The alternative power system is carefully selected for reliability, affordability, super easy installation and state of the art technology. Low maintenance and high reliability for many years to come. Grid Tied System Includes: . Solar Panels, 3000 Watt Inverter 30 Amp AC Disconnect. It is a photovoltaic (PV) system interacting with the utility, and can be with or without batteries, that utilizes relatively new breed of inverters that can actually sell any excess power produced by the air turbine and solar array back to the utility grid. If you are concerned at all about your utility rates going up and would like to do something to reduce your monthly electric bill, then a grid-tie solar system may be just the thing for you.The Air Breeze is awesome! We are creating a wind/solar hybrid system to power the appliances in the cabin. (TV, fridge, washing machine). It works beautifully in low wind, much better than anything else on the market.Remember that solar and wind complement each otherwhen it's cloudy, it's usually windy.Using green and non- or less toxic materials wherever possible, sustainable approaches to water and waste, environmental landscaping and energy-efficient design, heating and cooling. This cabin will come with a nice lanai and huge loft for additional space. Custom designed in Hawaii.

Sustainable living Hawaii. Intern Opportunity.
Sustainable living in Hawaii.
We are a small green architectural design firm based in Hawaiian Paradise Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are looking for talented, creative and reliable interns to work with us in our office and on project locations. This unpaid internship is designed to show students the ins and outs of green design, construction, solar and wind energy designs in a new and growing business. Must have good people and phone skills, positive attitude and a good eye for detail. Organization, focus and self-motivation skills are a must. Duties includes everything from planting to post-production digital photography work, web page manipulation, creative consulting, and basic admin office duties.Getting used to the climate in Hawaii will be a challenge too. Food cost and kitchen duties are shared, we grow a lot of our own vegetables.
We provide free lodging for as many as 4 volunteers at a time. We have a cabin for our interns with high speed internet. Inters staying as our guest must be willing to work for at least 1 month on a full-time basis. Local transportation is provided, we have 4x4 trucks for transportation but interns are responsible for all non-work-related travel expenses (travel to and from Hilo, Hawai`i, and travel on the Big Island and neighboring islands). Structured program combining on-the-job learning and related instruction in which participants receive theoretical and practical training in a highly skilled occupation. It is career training in solar, wind power, organic gardening, green building, design, real estate and much more. In each program, volunteers work and learn under the direction of experienced instructors.
Some volunteer positions require work in the field, sometimes in remote areas. For these positions, volunteers often spend 4-6 days in the field in hot, humid conditions, or sometimes in very cold, and wet weather. We are working on a projects on Kaloli Point on the Big Island right now. Our goal is to achieve LEED standard in our Kaloli 4 design. If you want to learn about Hawaii, solar power, wind energy, organic gardening, green building, tropical fruit orchards, vegetable garden, green houses, animal systems, sign up for our intern positions. Outdoors activities include hiking, diving, sailing, kayaking, surfing, boogie boarding, paragliding and horseback riding.
Green Architectural Design in Hawaii is accepting submissions for interns to join our growing organization. An internship is a great way to get hands-on experience and support our mission to protect and steward our island’s most precious resource – the land.
Work with GAD’s outreach staff to organize volunteer events, build our membership base, connect youth to educational opportunities on our lands, and build relationships with potential partners and volunteers.
Please complete the following questionnaire and submit it to Volunteer Coordinator at ecopagehawaii@gmail.com
Potential applicants interested in responding to this request may do so by contacting me: email:Call us if you have any questions.213 457 3614
